TRAVEL TO MOVIES: MAJOR GROM: PLAGUE DOCTOR

Director: Oleg Trofim
Cast: Tikhon Zhiznevskiy , Lyubov Aksyonova , Dmitriy Chebotarev , Alexander Seteykin , Sergei Goroshko , Oleg Chugunov , Mikhail Evlanov , Kystoner , Daniil Steklov , Vitaliy Khaev
Plot: When a masked vigilante's killing spree throws a city into chaos, a renegade detective and his rookie partner are the only ones who can stop it.

My Movie Review: The movie is explosive unexpectedly good superhero movie from Russia  and better than most of superhero movies giving you that extra spice on execution and a kick:) Major Grom: Plague Doctor isn't your typical choice of movie you chose though you should give it a try cause it's worth the ride and may take you on another level you didn't realize exist:) Grom has no superpowers, save for his ability to keep his flat cap on all times, and a talent for vividly imagining how scenarios could play out (similar to Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes), which offers several fun rug pulls yet even more exciting cause you don't know what will he do! It's quite nice surprise a Russian film but one that looks like a Hollywood blockbuster and that's a compliment the film has good art direction and features big action scenes that are not crude! A mixture of Batman, The Joker and V for Vendetta with a dash of stylistic comedy makes this Russian movie an entertaining watch just how they put together is awesome and quite a blast:)

Critic Reviews: Major Grom: Plague Doctor has the modern look and feel of the MCU's or Batman films, and its cast represents themselves well in stock roles. Don't expect depth here, but it's pretty entertaining. The script is nonsense-in-motion. The set-pieces are noisy, messy deployments of such like Bugs Bunny Physics that aren't the most exciting or visually coherent chases/fights I've ever seen. Major Grom overcomes familiarity with a fascinating and upbeat story that will have fans of the comic craving more. Tikhon Zhiznevskiy plays Igor as a man wary of everyone, confident in his ability to win any fistfight, and always, always droll to a fault. It’s all very much more subtle than the typical portrayal of a loose cannon cop more studied than brash and Zhiznevskiy’s performance lends some gravity to Igor that Major Grom‘s formulaic script doesn’t provide. Expect some derivative content, but the St. Petersburg setting for Major Grom: Plague Doctor is novel, the hero v. villain arc have a twist or two up its sleeve:)

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: FEAR STREET PART ONE: 1994

Director: Leigh Janiak
Cast: Kiana Madeira , Olivia Scott Welch , Benjamin Flores Jr. , Julia Rehwald , Maya Hawke , Charlene Amoia , David Thompson , Darrell Britt-Gibson , Ashley Zukerman , Fred Hechinger...
Plot: A circle of teenage friends accidentally encounter the ancient evil responsible for a series of brutal murders that have plagued their town for over 300 years. The film follows a group of few teenagers in Shadyside who are terrorized the town for centuries.

My Movie Review: The movie is goodie scary with some sauce in the past it's finger licking and easy to digest kind a scare nice start to a trilogy waiting to unfold giving vibes to anticipate! Fear Street Part One: 1994 is so good its praised by the LGBTQ+ community for its accurate representation of a lesbian couple, instead of making the characters' story revolve around sexuality and gaining acceptance: Deena's relationship with Sam its built throughout the story:) Fear Street is slick not unaware of the shoulders of past slasher flicks on which it stands not the best series of all time, but definitely very fun and worth watching!! I really enjoyed it. I loved the aesthetic of the films, and the plot was fun and quite original, with many unexpected twists! There were a few moments when I had to facepalm because the characters were being stupid, but let's be honest if people in horror movies aren't a bit dumb we wouldn't have horror movies! A real Shadyside, Ohio exists, but thankfully the violent history depicted in the films is fictional the movies are based on R.L. Stine's popular Fear Street book series made for teen to scream!

Critics Consensus: Fear Street Part One: 1994 kicks off the trilogy in promising fashion, honoring the source material with plenty of retro slasher appeal. Deena and Sam's romance is a push-pull between two paper-thin characters whose relationship never gains the contours that make you care about its survival. 1994 leans very much on recognizable nostalgia to build a sense of place-hell, the movie opens at a mall!-before getting into the bloody business at hand. A nasty, eloquent effective slasher... The film oozes confidence. Plays like "Scream" meets "Stranger Things" built on a supernatural premise sturdy enough to sustain interest and suspense over nearly six hours. Neither the story nor the characters have enough weight to make “1994” feel like anything other than a retro slasher knockoff. Fear Street encapsulates what made 90s thriller movies so popular. If I had adolescent nieces or nephews, I would be plopping them in front of the tv with popcorn so we could talk about it afterward. This easy-to-swallow conceit lets Fear Street gleefully, bloodily romp around the mass market paperbacks it honors. While Fear Street certainly has that cookie-cutter Netflix gloss to it, it still manages to provide enough thrills and unique surprises to make it a worthwhile entry into the horror genre:)

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: PRIME TIME

Director: Jakub Piątek
Cast: Bartosz Bielenia , Magdalena Poplawska , Malgorzata Hajewska , Dobromir Dymecki , Michal Kaleta , Cezary Kosinski , Olga Milaszewska , Adam Nawojczyk , Juliusz Chrząstowski
Plot: On New Year's Eve 1999, an armed man enters a TV studio during a broadcast, takes the host hostage and makes one demand: to give a message live on air. On last of 1999, 20-year-old Sebastian locks himself in TV studio. He has two hostages, a gun, important message for the world. This story of the attack explores a rebel's extreme measures & taking last resort:)

My Movie Review: The movie is a ticking bomb that didn't explode the anticipation on what's gonna happen next is more thrilling rather than the final moments I don't remember how it end! Prime Time is strikingly captivating as interesting premise with great thrilling moments, though it may alienate viewers who expect a more elaborated storyline the hash rush acts make room! I like about this ordeal its the intensity of the man's action who wants attention of the public what's the message he wants to cross I don't remember either but tense moments I got carried away and calmness poise of the female anchor under immense pressure truly stood out to me! Variety could say a slick but hollow hostage and I agreed as the star of 'Corpus Christi' returns as another antihero, Jakub Piatek's debut feature give him little to rebel against inner demons! Is Prime Time a good movie kind of in the middle when its good its really good a 5/10, Prime Time by Jakub Piatek is his great directorial feature debut as  he film touches upon the issues of incompetence of those in charge in tough situations, mass media, and displays Poland's picture at the beginning of the new millennium nice to see such engagement with so possibility!

Critic Reviews: Slick, watchable but ultimately somewhat pointless too facile to be anything beyond a ghost of a compelling idea. The thematic intent has legs, but not enough. A stunning central performance does a lot to rescue what the film's screenplay lacks. While it's an occasionally refreshing look at a hostage crisis, "Prime Time" is unfortunately understated to the point of being nearly anonymous. Prime Time Jakub Piątek is his great directorial feature debut. he film touches upon the issues of incompetence of those in charge in tough situations, mass media, and displays Poland's picture at the beginning of the new millennium. Out of this simple premise, Piatek spins a 90-minute thriller that, despite being low on conventional thrills, still manages to be engaging throughout. What works for the film is the director's ability to use the confined spaces to bild a sense of unease. Not quite able to connect its ideas about the damaging effect of mass media and systemic rot, the film ends up feeling like being trapped in a two-hour hostage situation. The beauty of Prime Time, beyond the fine central performances, is how little of is spelled out, preferring hint subtle reminders to an upcoming blatant exposition!
