TRAVEL TO MOVIES: THE LAST LETTER FROM YOUR LOVER

Director: Augustine Frizzell
Cast: Shailene Woodley , Joe Alwyn , Felicity Jones , Callum Turner , Jacob Fortune-Lloyd , Emma Appleton , Nabhaan Rizwan , Christian Brassington , Jessica D'Arcy , Vilhelm Blomgren
Plot: A pair of interwoven stories set in the present and past, The Last Letter From Your Lover follows Ellie Haworth (Felicity Jones), an ambitious journalist who discovers a trove of secret love letters from 1965 and becomes determined to solve the mystery of the forbidden affair at their center. As she uncovers the story behind Jennifer Stirling (Shailene Woodley), the wife of a wealthy industrialist, and Anthony O'Hare (Callum Turner) the financial journalist assigned to cover him, a love story of Ellie's own begins to unfold with the assistance of an earnest and endearing archivist (Nabhaan Rizwan) who helps her track down more letters. Based on the novel by JoJo Moyes and directed by Augustine Frizzell.

My Movie Review: The movie is such moving romantic drama from the past and present that takes us on a journey of swooning highs and gut-wrenching lows, as it starts kind of confusing the ending leaves us in despair as it doesn't reveal what happens to the old couple after their reunion at the park as Ellie and Rory watch what happen with Anthony as he waits for Jennifer! The Last Letter from Your Lover is no tearjerker this one more whiner so if you're looking for that level of release go elsewhere but it's passable as a finely curated plate of romantic meat and potato, comfort food lightly basted in bathos, wait to quell your hunger' for bit of escapism:) The love letters are very romantic if a little generic as the lush settings and Woodley's fabulous Jackie Onassis-inspired couture fashions are something to look the aesthetic help set the tone! Joe Alwyn plays Laurence Stirling, Jennifer's wealthy and successful husband who isn't what he seems, as his relationship with Jennifer is actually quite turbulent his one of male lead star:) The last moments felt at last as two aging lovers embrace to live happily ever after, even that isn't for very much longer! The Last Letter From Your Lover ending isn't exactly straight happy, considering how many years were wasted but least Jennifer and Anthony get there eventually:)

Critic Reviews: Indecision and miscommunication, it turns out, are timeless. An adaptation of a Jojo Moyes novel, here's a half-baked movie that offers two love stories for the price of one. By plaguing the elegant and tender moments of forbidden love with try-hard dialogue and illogical meet-cutes, everything that should make your heart sing just sounds out of tune. While I have lots of time for Woodley, I just don't buy her as the kind of woman who would speed along the Riviera in a convertible while wearing a Jackie O headscarf. If there's a chink in your emotional armour, there's simply no resisting what this film has to offer. Sometimes love comes like a bolt from the blue. In The Last Letter from Your Lover it comes clearly signposted and stamped. The Last Letter From Your Lover delivers a compelling mystery that draws viewers in with its energy and presentation. It’s a romance with a faux emotional connection that, on screen, frankly, has not been earned. The Last Letter From Your Lover isn’t the movie to usher in a new wave of romance films, but it does give a little taste of what the genre can be. I just wish it was a more filling meal. The Last Letter From Your Lover is a glossy tale of lost love that will work for fans of disposable weepies. Those expecting more happening it's return to sender!

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: BLOOD RED SKY

Director: Peter Thorwarth
Cast: Peri Baumeister , Carl Anton Koch , Alexander Scheer , Gordon Brown , Roland Møller , Graham McTavish , Dominic Purcell , Chidi Ajufo , Ilona Schulz , Kai Ivo Baulitz , Rutger Lysen
Plot: When a group of terrorists hijacks an overnight transatlantic flight, a mysteriously ill woman must unleash a monstrous secret to protect her young son.

My Movie Review: The movie is a build up suspense when group of terrorists pick the wrong plane to hijack in a Netflix thriller that never finds the right way to accommodate its wild! Overall Blood Red Sky itself is a fantastic premise that starts off really well but sadly hits too many obstacles along the way to make a great sequences while keeping their emotions intact:) An innovative horror thriller after a long time, Blood Red Sky is an entertaining affair that has the right levels of chills and spills to keep you on the edge of your seats like most of the time! The brilliant Peri Baumeister stars as Nadja, a troubled mother to a precocious young son who has boarded a plane to get treatment for a mysterious illness for as the same plane gets hijacked by a bunch of ruthless armed mercenaries as she deal with same the rest of the story! Blood Red Sky takes a phenomenal concept that mixes genre hits like From Dusk Till Dawn, Snakes on a Plane, and Train to Busan and just gone to ringer, when the bite's fatal with rage:) In the end, Elias has to make a terrible choice blowing up his mother and the other vampires to contain the situation but it might seem like an overly dark and shocking way to end the story, but Elias' decision is actually the culmination of him, Nadja's relationship as protective mother:)

Critics Consensus: Blood Red Sky makes the most of its high-concept vampire story, such delivering a fast-paced treat for genre enthusiasts. The sense of surprise or playfulness that you would think is inherent in a 'Bats on a Plane' concept just isn't here. Blood Red Sky is itself a fantastic premise that starts off really well but sadly hits too many obstacles along the way to make a great story. Director/co-writer Peter Thorwarth splatters the screen with gore while tossing in surprises, delirious preposterousness and even a few touching moments. It's grand fun. It's an intriguing dilemma - one that a better film would have done more to contrast against the hijackers craven inhumanity as Blood Red Sky fails to coagulate that conflict into action. It's type of plot that screams action-horror spectacle, yet high-altitude thriller defies expectations from the start. A beating heart of familial love pumps through the veins of this intense horror-thriller with a vicious take on vampire lore. We see how even vampires are better fit for society than terrorists. There's something to be said for a film that knows exactly what it is and fulfills its remit to the level best of its ability. It may draw from obvious influences, but it is its own movie, standing alone as a suspenseful, moving, sparks, and surprising film from start to finish!

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: CHERNOBYL 1986

Director: Danila Kozlovskiy
Cast: Danila Kozlovskiy , Oksana Akinshina , Filipp Avdeev , Nikolay Kozak , Igor Chernevich , Ravshana Kurkova , Pavel Davydov, Nikolay Samsonov , Anton Shwartz , Samvel Tadevossian
Plot: After the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant number 4, the USSR and all of Europe is faced with an even greater threat a possible steam explosion that would eject even more radioactive material into the atmosphere over the entire continent. Firefighter Alexey volunteers for what seems like a suicide mission: manually drain the plant's reservoir before the melting reactor collapses into it. Risking their lives in service to their country, Alexey and his colleagues must navigate the labyrinthine passages of the plant's underground, facing danger at every turn from the facility's quickly failing infrastructure. With time running out, and the fate of all of Europe hanging in the balance, this team of ordinary citizens turned heroes must use all their strength and bravery to save their nation from such all complete devastation!!

My Movie Review: The movie is such a good watch for anyone who has not seen the critically acclaimed HBO miniseries that sets the bar high emerged as the top-rated television show on IMDb, beating out the likes of Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad, it is the only show with a 9.6 rating- putting actors-- Stellan Skarsgard and Jared Harris in a still from HBO's Chernobyl:) Chernobyl 1986 on the other hand is widely acclaimed for it's accuracy, and many of the major inaccuracies are labelled and addressed in the last parts, some of it is of course dramatized, but how the Soviet union responded to the crisis; what caused the explosion and in what order the events transpired is well represented' such a high marks for backdrop and characterization! Chernobyl 1986 focuses on the personal life of a fictional character who plays a major role in containing certain aspects of the disaster the story reveals our protagonist Alexey, a firefighter, who struggles with tough life' still he's good at his work but has his own personal battle to face! The movie looks good and the set pieces particularly when the firefighters are at the nuclear plant are really well shot but this is not a feel-good flick, yet aesthetically it is an outstanding film with thoughtful use of color, brilliant visual storytelling, and chilling images as boy up-close!

Movie News: Chernobyl 1986 Netflix Movie Review – From Russia with Flaws The word masterpiece gets thrown around a lot but 2019’s Chernobyl lives up to that title. Gripping, suspenseful and absolutely dread-inducing, the six-part series accurately and comprehensively broke down this disaster. So how do you top that? The answer is, you don’t. Fast forward two years and Russian movie Chernobyl 1986 only reinforces how true this statement. With a laborious pace, a lackluster romance and some so-so action set pieces, 1986 essentially uses the Chernobyl disaster as a backdrop for his whirlwind romance with Olga. Alexey is known to bail when things get tough, he shows up drunk and even forces himself on her at one point. And this is the protagonist of our story. But don’t worry, he soon turns into an aspiring action hero who can do it all. We then skip forward two months as Olga takes a backseat and Alexey is given the lion’s share of the screen-time. He teams up with his fellow firefighters as disaster strikes at Chernobyl. The Reactor blows Alexey joins his comrades on the frontlines, Alexey manages to survive with minor radiation burns, eventually going on to volunteer as one of the brave liquidators tasked with trying to stop the disaster from spiraling out of control. The film’s pace is pretty poor, with many scenes dragging on for far too long. Unfortunately, this means there’s little in the way of impending dread or suspense for large swathes of the movie overall:(
