TRAVEL TO MOVIES: ENOLA HOLMES

Director: Harry Bradbeer
Cast: Millie Bobby Brown , Henry Cavill , Sam Claflin , Helena Bonham Carter , Burn Gorman , Louis Partridge , Adeel Akhtar , Susan Wokoma , Hattie Morahan , David Bamber , Fiona Shaw
Plot: When Enola Holmes-Sherlock's teen sister-discovers her mother missing, she sets off to find her, becoming a super-sleuth in her own right as she outwits her famous brother and unravels a dangerous conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history around a mysterious young Lord and make adventure of their own.

My Movie Review: The movie is a fast-paced clever entertainment with teenage adventure along the way that often serves conspiracy theories in a hot plate & put the lead in harm's way! Enola Holmes is a little overwrought and sometimes lose its vibe but Millie Bobby Brown's charming heroine and Henry Cavill's fun Sherlock pull off all the twists and turn bake the cake:) Why Enola Holmes is bad? The biggest problem with this film is that it doesn't quite know what it wants to be on some part and towards the middle the quest become different than expect! The opening 15 minutes sets up to be Enola's genius psyche and her crazy ability to solve the smallest of problems but I started to enjoy watching when she met a mysterious young Lord hiding her train cabin and so the adventure began with little bit fight scenes and stowing away:) The Netflix Original is a delightful film that is fun and surprisingly not that predictable, like many movies these days I love that it says you have to live a life that's yours as an ending message:)

Critics Consensus: Enola Holmes brings a breath of fresh air to Baker Street-- and leaves plenty of room for Millie Bobby Brown to put her effervescent stamp on a franchise in waiting! I'd like to see a follow-up - only this time, get a real mystery writer involved at the screenplay stage. Buoyant and precocious without being even slightly annoying, Brown has pinpoint comic timing, infectious perk, and a wholesome, tomboyish aura: imagine a young Keira Knightley crossed with Phoebe Waller-Bridge. At a little more than two hours, "Enola Holmes" may be a tad long, but there are a lot of threads to unravel and it does so more than satisfactorily. Fleet and mostly exhilarating...an engaging riff on the Holmes mystique, and the start of what could become an enjoyable franchise. Enola Holmes is that rare gift that falls under the umbrella of 'family film' that still packs a great satisfying wallop for adult audiences too. A welcome and refreshing take on the Sherlock story, it gives us a new unauthorized Holmes sleuth to ponder:)

TRAVEL TO PLACES: PHILIPPINES-- SAMGYUPSAL NIGHT

My Personal Experience: I went to have Samgyupsal Night this year July 5, 2020, together with our neighbor in the province. This is the first time they invite me to their samgyupsal night!! It's nice to experience bonding with your neighbors once in a while with delicious food- meals and dessert that you don't eat often refreshing for me to have this gathering even it's lockdown!

Samgyupsal Night
What does samgyupsal mean? The word 삼겹살 / samgyeopsal literally means “three layer flesh”, and denotes a cut of uncured pork belly which is predominately characterized by layers of fat-meat-fat-meat-fat-meat (starting with the outer later), often including a thin layer of skin on the outside. Korean’s preference for this rich cut of pork for use is found in its frequency of use in Korean cuisine well beyond its common use at your typical Korean BBQ, also being used as the prime cut of choice for steamed 보쌈 / bossam …not to mention one of a few different cuts that can used when preparing 제육 주물럭 / jumuleok and 두루치기 / duruchigi:(:)

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME

Director: Antonio Campos
Cast: Tom Holland , Robert Pattinson , Harry Melling , Bill Skarsgård , Michael Banks Repeta , Sebastian Stan , Jason Clarke , Haley Bennett , Riley Keough , Eliza Scanlen , Kristin Griffith , Mia Wasikowska , Pokey LaFarge , David Atkinson , Mia Goth , Douglas Hodge , Drew Starkey
Plot: A young man is devoted to protecting his loved ones in a town full of corruption and sinister characters as converge around him in all post-war backwoods town teeming with corruption and brutality.

My Movie Review: The movie is full of layers you need to watch it very keen to appreciate its presence otherwise it will leave you to its gruesome parts that's not pleasant to watch and get stuck to its dark without seeing the light you need to process the violence and sorrow it shows!! At first I don't like this film with such a grim start I thought its going to be like that all the time so what I did is I watch it part by part so that I can brace on what to come absorb what can I take:) I have to understand its roots before making a judgement so I watch giving my full attention to it and all of sudden I started liking it as the story flows I started to keep afloat as wanting more!! The killing of the couple was shocking at first and then it became a routine I have to admit I enjoy those parts even if its brutal to think about you can't help to wonder how will they do it on the next victim until they got the taste of their own medicine in the final parts, unexpected thrill:)

Critics Consensus: The Devil All the Time's descent into darkness can be harrowing to the point of punishment, but it's offset by strong work from a stellar cast. When The Devil All the Time does plunge into the moral abyss, it's intoxicating -- if only it did it more often. A slow burn showcasing how the environment, education, and religion all churn together to produce a captivatingly in-depth story that haunts you long after the credits roll. An enthralling and often disturbing exposé of the dark side of a period of history we see far too often sanitized for easy consumption. A breathtakingly directed and powerfully performed Southern Gothic delight. An admittedly overlong yet consistently engrossing drama... This is one of the most ruthless, yet gripping Netflix Originals to date. There are instances of heart and significance scattered throughout the film, but it too often gives into its wandering nature and stops itself from ever making a lasting impression. While I understand why this movie would be appealing to some, I found myself respecting the craft more than enjoying the experience. Such fiendishly' gripping:)

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: THE PARAMEDIC

Director: Carles Torras
Cast: Mario Casas , Déborah François , Guillermo Pfening , Martin Bacigalupo , Alice Bocchi , Celso Bugallo , Raúl Jiménez , Maria Rodríguez Soto , Tony Corvillo , Gerard Oms , Sara Ruiz
Plot: Angel works in an ambulance service. After a tragic accident, his personal life begins to deteriorate as he becomes more and more suspicious of his partner Vane. After suffering a serious accident, Angel's life with Vane begins to unravel; obsessed with the idea that she is unfaithful to him, his life will turn into hell.

My Movie Review: The movie is a dark twisted plot thriller with unexpectedly intense start that withers in the second half where a man uses his medical skills for revenge as he felt jealous and depress with well-executed slow burn trap trick which can be hard to come by these days:) The Paramedic is one of my most anticipated movies coming this 2020 when I first saw Netflix is releasing this film I felt excited and knew it will be good but I never know until its going to be agonizing with Ángel such an unlikeable protagonist that some of the sequences involving his revenge plots and general existence' feel grueling and unpleasant to endure his so bad doings! Mario Casas is convincing as he fell deep to the character he completely lose himself there’s something to be said for his craftsmanship and the way it commits to acting his part so reeling!! Déborah François however though new to me boasts strong performance with the competent script make a lasting first impression she deserves more recognition with that persistence acts!

Critic Reviews: The Paramedic is about a lonely man with a deadly obsession that fails to go further than the limited potential of the plot. It's solid enough for a Friday night. And its main character serves a homage to how a villain must begin forming itself. There is some degree of suspense in terms of what Ángel will be able to get away with and how he will manage to inflict so much pain and misery, but too much of the film feels like fait accompli from the beginning. A perverse and narcissist thriller. The actor surpasses a major physical and acting challenge! Boasts strong performances, a competent script, and a well-executed slow burn which can be hard to come by these days. Horror movie about revenge has disturbing violence. A mixed-bag of a thriller...but one that builds up to a fine, furious finale that atones for some of its first and second-act sins. I found the plot interesting. Good camera work and particularly love how they used facial expressions and music to tell part of the story. As intensity you can't just make it up!

TRAVEL TO PLACES: PHILIPPINES-- NATHANIEL'S BAKESHOP

My Personal Experience: I went to Nathaniel's Bakeshop Pampanga this year May 12, 2020, together with my cousin and her husband. We went there to buy some treats for Mother's Day:) Nathaniel's Bakeshop is becoming a favorite in our household my mom and dad likes dessert Buko Pandan Salad, pastries like Puto Pao, Cheesy Ensaymada, Buko Pie, Pineapple Pie and others like Dimsum, Pitchi-Pitchi, & Kutchinta' in that sense I've become fond of their products:)

Nathaniel's Bakeshop
FNC-Nathaniel's Food Corporation was founded in 1994 in City of San Fernando Pampanga by then housewife Nelly Co. Selling homemade siopao and siomai at the family garage to friends & neighbours. Returning customers looked for more products, it is then Nelly made what is now called by many as "Pampanga's Famous Buko Pandan Salad ®" Growth was inevitable, from the simple beginnings of selling our products in the garage, Nathaniel's moved to San Fernando Pampanga's business district in 2005. Nathaniel's now a full blown restaurant that offers wide range of quality food such dimsum, desserts, pastries, cake, "kakanin" and "merienda". Currently it has 10 branches located in Pampanga, & some parts of Metro Manila:)

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: BABYSITTER: KILLER QUEEN

Director: McG
Cast: Judah Lewis , Samara Weaving , Bella Thorne , Robbie Amell , Leslie Bibb , King Bach , Jenna Ortega , Hana Mae Lee , Emily Alyn Lind , Ken Marino , Chris Wylde , Scott Mac Arthur
Plot: Two years after defeating a satanic cult led by his babysitter, Cole once again has to outsmart the forces of evil when old enemy unexpectedly return. He's living another nightmare: high school. And the demons from his past? Still making his life hell.

My Movie Review: The movie is a great follow-up like the first is full of great one liners that often witty and the murders are just as amusing plus the characters were fun and enjoyable:) You really get the feeling everyone is having a great time on set as the spoof comes batshit crazy when almost everyone try to kill Cole or his friends convert and join his enemies team! Would recommend people to check it out if your looking for a bit of gruesome fun and not that scary Halloween spree nothing serious kind of movie also like they change the location setting! King Bach is killing it in this sequel his a supporting cast but this appearances are adorable as he makes the scenes more fun to watch and you can feel he level his game cool funny brother! The girls are killing it too Bella Thorne, Jenna Ortega, Samara Weaving' give different vibe to the movie but all are serving it while Robbie Amell, Judah Lewis' consistent bad and good boy:)

Critic Reviews: The sequel proves there was still a great deal of fun to have with these characters, even if its finale relies a bit too much on dumping a ton of exposition on viewers, and recontextualizing its predecessor in a way that felt a little bit forced. Killer Queen knows Exactly what it is. A fun popcorn bloody horror comedy that almost goes off the rails at times stoner dads rejoice. Cole and new character Phoebe keep the heart in tact and give something to us root for. There is oddly nothing sinister about this violent film, which makes it a perfect distraction, because it gets your attention from the go. It breaks the rules until it creates a contagious and festive tone. It's good enough for a Friday night and that's it. But hey, there's nothing wrong with that. All in all, the campy gore-fest of The Babysitter: Killer Queen isn't going to impress you with the depth and dexterity of its filmmaking but it is likely to please fans of the original who just want another dose of silly horror comedy and keep us most so satisfied!

TRAVEL TO PLACES: PHILIPPINES-- IT'S A HUNDRED DEGREES

My Personal Experience: I went to our San Nicolas Home Backyard this year May 7, 2020, together with my mom and dad. We went there in the backyard cause its very hot summer day! I was inspired to take a pic since its been a while I've taken one and then what follows was I vibe in to Rich Brian's 100 Degrees really put me in awesome mood and have a blast that day!!

It's A Hundred Degrees
100 Degrees is a song by Australian singer-songwriter Kylie Minogue, with her sister Dannii Minogue. The track was the second single from Kylie's album Kylie Christmas. But I was inspired by Rich Brian 100 Degrees his 2019's smash hit that launch him' is the one I'm vibe in!

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: #ALIVE

Director: Il Cho
Cast: Yoo Ah-In , Park Shin-Hye , Jeon Bae-soo , Hyun-Wook Lee , Hye-Won Oh , Danbi Kim
Plot: The rapid spread of an unknown infection has left an entire city in ungovernable chaos, but one survivor remains alive in isolation. It is his story.

My Movie Review: The movie is very enjoyable with good action and decent acting its worth watching plus its humorous at times you get scared to the suspense as have fun at same sight! #Alive is about a laid back gamer whose been homebound in his apartment without enough stock of food and water as zombies spread outside around the apartment vicinity and hallways! As the movie progress zombies knocking on the door and the struggles of isolation took place being apart with his family became somewhat relatable especially this trying times where we face different kind of virus and so many of us are still affected during this Covid-19 Quarantine! Making this film very timely and relevant to watch plus the awesome ensemble makes effective portrayal of rapid outbreak and will to survive together with new found ally the girl from nearby apartment they help each other to surpass the day and fight' zombies or people try to get them!

Critics Consensus: Zombie violence, cursing in this thrilling Korean horror tale. Well-acted, genuinely unsettling, and occasionally even funny, #alive proves the crowded zombie genre still has fresh stories to tell. "#Alive" is a nifty little thriller that proves that you can always find signs of life in the most undead of genres. Never boring, consistently creepy, and inspires so much more hope than most zombie pictures unleashed on horror fans these days. Audiences will find themselves frustrated and hopeful for "Oh Joon-woo" as he fumbles his way though attempts at survival. Who knew that zombie films could be as inventive and nerve-wracking as this, despite there not being a dozen characters with backstories to care about? It's tight and fast-paced, the characters do a lot with the little space they have, and the action sequences are appropriately tense and disturbing, but there are also a few doses of humor. We're all a bit zombied out these days' but this clever Korean import kept me more than suitably entertained:)

TRAVEL TO PLACES: PHILIPPINES-- CORE NEON LIGHTS

My Personal Experience: I went to Tomas Morato- Core Night Club-- this year March 1, 2020, together with my best friend. We went there before the pandemic-- hits the country making this our last night out in the bar! Luckily we have some last hoorah before the lockdown began and I have fun night with the neon lights hitting my face its like I'm in outer space beyond this place!

Core Neon Lights
From my experience, the ambience here is pretty chill for drinking and not that crowded. I also didn't like the music which is very outdated like you're partying in early 2000's. But all in all, it's a good place. Just be careful always and be vigilant to cancel orders if no one in your group ordered one. Also, always take extra care of your belongings and no need for you to get wasted, let their music be your drug. The light is inviting you to dance all night- the club for you!

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: FREAKS: YOU'RE ONE OF US

Director: Felix Binder
Cast: Cornelia Gröschel , Tim Oliver Schultz , Nina Kunzendorf , Ralph Herforth , Gisa Flake , Wotan Wilke Möhring , Frederic Linkemann , Finnlay Berger , Thelma Buabeng , Johann Fohl
Plot: Tipped by a mysterious tramp, a meek fry cook discovers she has superpowers and bands together with a group of kindred spirits as they uncovers an unsavory vast conspiracy:(:)

My Movie Review: The movie is uneven underdog superhero tale that has surprising violence as the waitress have incredible strength to carry her fat manager in the restaurant she work in:) Freaks: You're One Of Us has tricks and style I never seen in other movies that's why it got me thinking why critics don't like as it got 0% Rotten Tomatoes Critics Score, 22% Audience Score! I almost cancel this review but there some elements of it I keep rooting for like familiarity set-up reminds me of the American film Brightburn's dinner power showcase but this didn't go darker:) I like the twist the sort of friend became the villain as he was consumed by his superpower and I didn't see that coming it's exciting in a sense and mostly off-beat you don't expect just arrives! This one is for the whole family no skin shown so you can show this to your kids and don’t expect anything super dark just a little bit danger still has lots of cool moments and works well:)

Movie News: Freaks: You're One Of Us- promising superhero film that soon loses momentum! It's about Wendy (Cornelia Gröschel) is content with her mundane life, which revolves around her son Karl (Finnlay Berger), her nasty boss Angela (Gisa Flake) and pushing her laidback husband Lars (Frederic Linkemann) to save their house. But in the midst, she rediscovers her superpower of super strength, which she has suppressed through years of medication prescribed by her shrink Dr Stern (Nina Kunzendorf). Her colleague Elmar (Tim Oliver Schultz) is as timid as her. However, things change when a homeless man Marek (Wotan Wilke Möhring) makes Wendy realise her true powers, while showing his superpower-invincibility. Soon, Wendy stops taking her prescribed pills and regains her old strength and power but Elmar went shrink’s office. After Wendy confronts Elmar, he realises his electrical powers and wants to claim fame as ‘Electro Man.’ As they understand to use their powers, things go astray!

My Personal Experience: I went to Giligan's Sky Garden North this year February 16, 2020, together with my best friend. Giligan's Sky Garden
When it comes to food, there are choices for group meal which has a reasonable price. Ambiance is okay for a restaurant that offers alcoholic beverages. Service is also okay except during peak hours. Nice restaurant for family or group occasions. Busy but not crowded, super fast service and nice group deals. Crispy Sisig was my favorite everything is well prepare! Service was very attentive a good restaurant serving Chinese Cuisine. The food were tasty and the price were reasonable. They have package for group of 2, 4, 6, 10 etc. for lower price:)

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: UNKNOWN ORIGINS

Director: David Galán Galindo
Cast: Javier Rey , Verónica Echegui , Brays Efe , Antonio Resines , Ernesto Alterio , Frank T. , Carlos Areces , Álex García , Leonardo Sbaraglia , Roman Rymar , Laura Galán , Mario Díaz
Plot: Madrid, 2019. A serial killer is spreading chaos. Anonymous people with no apparent connection are being murdered while imitating the first appearances of the most famous superheroes. A seasoned detective and his young and impulsive replacement put together the strange clues left by a serial killer.

My Movie Review: The movie is a superhero story with unique graphic violence that tickles our fascination on comic books nerdy pop culture references and solving mysteries like we're sort of a detective who seek answer and find the truth we're drown to that serial killer darkness! Unknown Origins is the Spanish take on the American movie Kick-Ass with all that superhero dark humor and light comedy on the side it balance its tonal and conceptual bumbling in a fool smart way that's rare to come around now there's something dumb about but very informative:) This is such a fun and entertaining movie I was surprise how good it is light and free flowing with a hint of mystery and right amount of gore that add spice watch this if your not in a mood of anything serious plus likeable characters' that you might find yourself attached or relate too:) Bad finish astonishing potential ending in a colossal cycle or lost in translation but nevertheless I like a movie that look like a parody and sprung something' fresh original thought to showcase!

Critic Reviews: Adapting his own novel, filmmaker David Galan Galindo gives a pastiche vibe to this Spanish thriller, with its witty characters and hyper-grisly murders. While there's some fun to be had in this superhero rip-off, it's not enough to make up for Unknown Origins' bizarre tonal shifts and lack of self-awareness, taking itself way too seriously as a superhero meets hard-boiled crime flick. The allusions and mentions pile up, but don't crowd... and will surely be better received by fanatics within the comic book world. Despite its best intentions, Unknown Origins is too unfocused and trying to nail too many stories down at once. An exciting and fun film with lots of heart. This goofy send-up of gritty superhero stories winds up turning into the thing it's poking fun at. A slick fun thriller that functions best when it embraces the absurdity of the genres it mixes, but then falls flat with a third act that practically betrays the work done! Director Galán Galindo's debut feature- defies pre-conceived notions by his collage of genres:0

TRAVEL TO MOVIES: THE SLEEPOVER

Director: Trish Sie
Cast: Malin Akerman , Ken Marino , Joe Manganiello , Matthew Grimaldi , Harry Aspinwall , Sadie Stanley , Maxwell Simkins , Cree Cicchino , Lucas Jaye , Enku Gubaie , Marissa Carpio
Plot: When two siblings discover their seemingly normal mom is a former thief in witness protection who has been forced to pull one last job, they team up to rescue her over the course of an action-packed night.

My Movie Review: The movie is a family-friendly action tale that delivers a lot of humor with mild violence and silliness on the side actually it's fun to watch is above average for a kids flick! The Sleepover is the latest addition to Netflix’s roster of films you can watch with the whole family over the weekend- give you time to let your hair down as it entertain and kick some ass:) I have to admit the night started unusual I didn't like it at first but as it goes along it gets better when the kids work together to find their parents and discover cool spy gadgets in their garage! Maxwell Simkins is smart-mouthed young son that's hysterically funny and a natural comedian add hype energy to the film with his cute reactions so very contagious surely have a good time! Malin Akerman is a bad-ass mom who showcase flawless fighting chops make all impressive presence throughout the film I think this is the best I've seen from her the real star of the night:)

Critic Reviews: The Sleepover is filled with humor, action, and some serious hijinks! While it was a bit predictable, the wild ride did not disappoint. What also makes the film have some charm is how the screenplay by Sarah Rothschild has a lot of genuine humor in it. Sie is not reinventing the genre wheel here, and many of her set pieces feel made-for-TV flat, but she appears to be having as much fun as her budget allows. It's wacky, but surprisingly funny and powered by an amusing cast. Sie elicits mostly spontaneous, credible performances from the younger cast, who deliver their wisecracks and banter with aplomb and only occasionally edge into annoying child-actor pertness. Ken Marino steps up to turn a largely thankless role into the movie's most interesting subject. As harebrained, mostly clean, overly convoluted, somewhat hyperactive, funny, family-friendly movies-that-need-a-quiet-place-to-calm-down-a-little-bit go, The Sleepover is wholly watchable as family adventure-comedy for a new generation to enjoy:)
